menu_bookDescription
Three parts in one volume. 12mo (134x74 mm), red morocco leather binding. The covers are adorned with a double gilt fillet, and the spine, featuring five raised bands, is richly embellished with gilt tooling and titling. The endpapers are of marbled paper, gilt edges (Masson-De Bonnelle). The pagination is as follows: pp. 347, [7] + pp. 469, [9] + pp. 166, [32]. Collation: A-Z12 Aa-Vv12, with the final blank leaf Vv12 absent. Notably, there is a woodcut depicting Dive Bouteille on leaf Tt3r. The verso of the title page bears a stamp with the intertwined initials "SG." A pencil annotation on the rear endpaper reads "Salle Drouot Giraud-Badin 11 juin 1957 Frs. 103,000." This copy is in excellent condition.
Very rare edition that undoubtedly appeared after 1584, the year when the final appendices to Rabelais's work were annexed for the first time. The printing date might be a typographical error, suggesting it should be read as 1585. However, the edition could also be slightly later. Typographically, it presents itself as a sixteenth-century imprint.
